Rogue Valley Staycation

We are so fortunate to live in a place that has so much beauty and so much to explore! A couple of weeks ago we noticed that we were getting a snow storm, so I booked a cabin at the Green Springs Inn, just 17 miles up the mountain from Ashland. When we arrived there was a small amount of snow on the ground, but then it really started to come down. We watched the snow fall as we settled in. We lit the prebuilt fire, made hot cocoa and started to fill the hot tub. We told the kids there was no wifi, which they could have cared less about. It was so nice to unplug and be together as a family with no electronics or tvs! We played Monopoly, hot tubed and talked. We put a shepherd's pie that we brought with us in the oven and relaxed. It was a wonderful way to spend 24 hours together. It takes us about 30 minutes to get here, but feels like it's a world away for anything. If you live in the Rogue Valley it is well worth planning a staycation here. If you are coming from out of town, it is a wonderful way to experience Oregon mountain life, close to town.

Cabins range from $250-$275 per night. They also offer rooms at their lodge (hot tubs available here too) starting at $135 per night.

Here are some tips and details, if you go which you should!

The cabins are are very nice, clean and have most everything you need for a great stay.  They are spacious and easily fit our family of five. Most have a king bed on the lower floor and a double futon and queen bed in the loft. *Be aware that there is a steep ladder going to the loft which may not be suitable for children.

The kitchens are well stocked and include coffee (cream too) and hot cocoa. The small oven and range top makes preparing a simple meal easy.

There's a wood stove, which they set up with kindling for you to start upon arrival. They have a tidy stack of wood inside as well as outside. The wood stove is so nice and makes me long for one again! It's in the center of the living space, so be careful with children.

They provide plenty of fresh towels and Terry cloth robes . They also leave towels for puppy paws too.

They lodge generously borrows out snow shoes, free of charge.

If your looking to rent cross country skis try GET n GEAR in Ashland. They are helpful and reasonably priced. There are so many wonderful trails. Buck Prairie is beautiful and can be a very popular nordic trail.

Bring some premade food to heat up or pop in the oven or try the restaurant, which is always delicious....especially the pie!
